WHAT IS A CBT?
CBT stands for Compulsory Basic Training. It's a one-day course covering the basics of riding safely on UK roads: control, braking, road awareness.
At the end, you get a certificate that lets you ride a 125cc* motorcycle (or an electric equivalent, like all Maeving models) with L-plates for two years.
There's no exam or written test, just practical training with an instructor. Most people complete it in 6-8 hours and leave feeling ready to ride.
*You must be 17 or over to ride 125cc motorcycles like Maeving. 16-year-olds can ride 50cc mopeds with a CBT.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY OF YOUR CBT?
Your CBT is split into five elements:
Introduction and eyesight check
You'll read a number plate from 20 metres, discuss appropriate clothing, and get an overview of the day.
Get to know the bike
Off-road, you'll learn the controls, safety checks, and how to handle the bike at a standstill (wheeling it, using the stand).
Practical riding skills
Still off-road, you'll practise slow-speed control, braking, turning, and figure-eights until you're confident.
Highway Code review
A theory session covering road signs, hazards, safe riding practices, and legal requirements.
On-road riding
At least two hours riding in real traffic with your instructor, dealing with different situations and building confidence.
Most training schools provide bikes and basic safety kit. You just need at least a provisional driving licence.
HOW TO BOOK YOUR CBT
Search "CBT training near me" and choose a DVSA-approved centre. Most let you book online and cost £100-160 depending on location.

How to reimburse your CBT
Buy a Maeving and we'll cover your CBT in full. Here's how:
1) Sign up for our New Rider Programme
2) Complete your CBT at any DVSA-approved centre
3) Buy any new Maeving motorbike*
4) Send us your CBT certificate and payment receipt
5) We'll reimburse you within 14 days and share your £250 J&S accessories voucher.
*Second-hand bikes do not apply.

We'll walk you through the bike, provide a helmet and gloves, and answer questions before you ride.
